  1. The first cycle of studies consists of attending an Undergraduate Study Program, where each academic year includes educational activities corresponding to sixty (60) ECTS credits and is completed with the awarding of the degree.
  2. The minimum number of semesters required to obtain the degree is eight (8) semesters.
  3. Successful completion of the “Science of Physical Education and Sports” curriculum leads to the awarding of a degree with the same title.
  4. The maximum duration of study in the “Science of Physical Education and Sports” curriculum of the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science (DPESS) is eight (8) academic semesters, extended by an additional four (4) academic semesters.
  5. The Internal Regulations of the Democritus University of Thrace (Appendix 10 – Regulation of procedures and matters concerning the exceeding of the maximum duration of study, part-time study, and study suspension for undergraduate students of the Democritus University of Thrace) specify the procedural details and the necessary documents for exceptional cases of exceeding the maximum duration of study due to serious health reasons concerning the student or a first-degree blood relative, spouse, or a person with whom the student has entered into a civil partnership, as well as the process and conditions for part-time study or suspension.
  6. To obtain the degree, completion of 240 ECTS credits is required. Of these, 165 correspond to compulsory courses (33 in total) for all students of the Department, 45 ECTS (through 15 courses) are elective courses, and 30 ECTS (through 5 courses) are specialization courses. The duration of study is 8 semesters, and the ECTS credits are evenly distributed.
  7. For better program organization and resource utilization (both human and material) in practical courses, students of each academic year are divided into two groups based on their surname (A-K and L-Ω), and most elective courses are offered in both semesters of the academic year they belong to.

Specializations and Prerequisite Courses

In the “Science of Physical Education and Sports” curriculum, it is mandatory to declare and successfully attend a specialization in the 3rd year of studies. Students select one of the offered specializations in September of their 3rd year. Declaring a specialization requires the declaration and successful completion of the prerequisite course for that specialization. Prerequisite courses are offered either as compulsory courses or as elective courses, and students must select them to attend the corresponding specialization.
